Diachronic: A Virtual Exhibition

Do we still daydream?
It seems like time has gone homogeneous and temporalities such as the night seems to go absent. And it seems today, with the greater inequalities has been shown this year, that there is an on-going state of exhaustion. In line with a body of work that reflects on insomnia and temporal rhythms, I wondered about what potential does daydreaming has. Especially collectively. But also, is it possible to daydream when we are forcefully exposed to an incessant flow—of labour, of always have to do or see? In an interview I conducted with RM Vaughan (who is deeply missing) I asked him about that subject and he said "Daydreaming is a counter-reaction. Daydreaming is rebellion. To dream, to talk about dreams and to imagine collectively, I think art has a future here". I think of Bartleby, who daydreamed without interruption and "would prefer not to" renounce his immobility for anything and of Emily Dickinson's poetry who are often infused of a sense of alternate state of mind. Daydreaming is finally such as a refuge in a world of overexposure and of continuous activity. But as Vaughan stated, the collective power of dreaming has a future.
